Limbo Review by Mirai

Posted in Mirai, Reviews, Xbox 360 on August 20th, 2010

Limbo is a triumph in so many ways it’s hard to believe. The game wraps up a bit short with no story to speak of, and many of the best moments never make a return appearance, but this is a XBL game that simply must be played. (5/5)

Red Dead Redemption Review by Mirai

Posted in Mirai, Playstation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on August 13th, 2010

Red Dead Redemption is a good game, don’t get me wrong. But much of it feels very disconnected and scattered, like it’s trying to be an emotional, deep experience while simultaneously trying to waste your time. If you want to timesink you’ve got a good commitment but the rest of you will get bored and wander into the sunset. (3/5)

Batman: Arkham Asylum Review by Mirai

Posted in Mirai, Playstation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on September 18th, 2009

In a nutshell: Batman: Arkham Asylum is a fantastic treatment of the Batman license, featuring a roster of his rogue’s gallery, expansive collection, flowy combat, and some of the most perfectly Batman stealth-predatory segments known to gaming. Tragically the shallow and pathetic here-is-my-weak-point-please-don’t-shoot-it-repeat-three-times boss fights, easy combat, and the constant blue wash of Detective Mode keep it from being perfect, but taking control of Batman is, for the first time, appropriate, and it earns every gold star it gets. 4/5

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood Review by Azisien

Posted in Azisien, Playstation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on September 18th, 2009

I hadn’t really been following the news streams for Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood developed by Techland.  Perhaps this is a good thing, however, because it meant I had no set qualifications when I powered the game on besides “I sure hope this is a good game.”  I’m a relative fan of the western [...]

Raven Squad Review by Mirai

Posted in Mirai, Reviews, Xbox 360 on September 11th, 2009

Raven Squad in a nutshell: Raven Squad is an unfinished abomination that begs for apocalypse, with no remotely decent qualities to disguise the fact that this was slapped together and rushed out the door halfway through its morning shower. Graphical errors, godawful AI, crummy mechanics, hilariously awful writing and other mean words attached to every bit of this irredeemable trash, but none are as awful as the voice acting, and I daresay it challenges Star Ocean for worst voice acting this year.

Halo Wars Review by Azisien

Posted in Azisien, Reviews, Xbox 360 on September 4th, 2009

One important part of absorbing a review to me is getting some idea of the author so I can tell if he’s a good judge of a game for my personal tastes.  With that, let me begin by saying I’m not much a fan of Halo.  Aside from the early addition of co-op and casual [...]

Star Ocean: The Last Hope Review by NonCon

Posted in NonCon, Reviews, Xbox 360 on September 2nd, 2009

Star Ocean 4 in a nutshell: SO4 is everything I’ve ever hated about JRPGs, a genre I happen to love, and tries to prove true every bad thing people who don’t like them say. Everything but the combat made bile rise up in my throat, and the characters are impossible to like. 1/5 Loli Catgirls

Wolfenstein Review by Mirai

Posted in Mirai, Playstation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on August 30th, 2009

Wolfenstein in a nutshell: I’m with Tycho on this one – I can’t tell if they’re rolling over every single video game trope out of tribute or on accident. Either way, nothing detracts from the monotonous collection and shooting, the hilariously silly plot throwing facist sorcerers and Big Daddy Nazis, or the half-assed attempts to throw ‘puzzles’ at you. 1/5 Heroically Handsome Chins.

Ghostbusters Review by Mirai

Posted in Mirai, Playstation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on August 24th, 2009

Ghostbusters in a nutshell: I was thinking about calling it “Meet the Ghostbusters” but I feared people would assume that meant the Ghostbusters are making a sitcom, rather than a rip on the whole game being like the Scary Movie series except instead of dick jokes/pop culture it’s All Ghostbusters, All the Time. A limp-wristed attempt to mesh Gears of War with Ghostbusters with fantastic graphics and tolerable moments buried deep within. 1/5 Ghost Traps.

Street Fighter 4 Review by Mirai

Posted in Mirai, Playstation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on August 13th, 2009

Street Fighter 4 in a nutshell: If this game doesn’t make you throw your controller across the room in bile-filled frustration at the stupid game design, overpowered bosses, and pointless hoop-leaping to unlock characters then you are far bigger a man than I. Stomaching these things has a good time of a fighting game buried within, but cheap AI, overpowered bosses, and unlockable characters are three of the Fighting Game Deadly Sins and I will have no part in it. 2/5 Hadokens

Prototype Review by Mirai

Posted in Mirai, Playstation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on August 2nd, 2009

Prototype in a nutshell: Actually quite good, with most of the nitpicks being graphical design and occasionally frustrating gameplay, but where else are you going to flying elbow drop a Panzer from a hundred stories up? The multiple and varied gameplay elements, along with the schadenfreude abilities, break up the monotony nicely though be prepared for some frustrating bosses and Hunter gangbeatings. 4/5 Inappropriately Invasive Tentacles.

Prince of Persia ’08 Review by NonCon

Posted in NonCon, Playstation 3, Reviews, Xbox 360 on July 20th, 2009

Prince of Persia ’08 in a nutshell: Ubisoft could not have missed the point of non-linear gameplay harder. Instead they ended up with pointless choices, repetitive gameplay, some of the worst combat I’ve ever forced myself through, and in the end you go through it all to get retarded sequel ending. 0/5
